Mackay Defence Technologies appointed distributor for FAUN Trackway Ground Mobility Systems.

Mackay Defence Technologies, a division of Mackay Consolidated Industries based in Moorabbin Victoria, has recently been appointed the Australian distributor for FAUN Trackway Ground Mobility Systems.

FAUN is a UK based company that already has an extensive range of products in use by over 30 armed forces worldwide.

Designed and developed for the UK Ministry of Defence, FAUN Trackway is a modular aluminium roadway system that is used for the rapid deployment and recovery of vehicles and people. Trackway provides temporary access into areas where there are no roads or the roads have been damaged.

The system is designed to be transported easily by a wide variety of vehicles, and can be used repeatedly or stored for future use. The roadway system can be deployed quickly and efficiently by a two-man team in less than 10 minutes.

For vehicle use Trackway is available in 2 different models - the Medium Ground Mobility System (MGMS) and Heavy Ground Mobility System (HGMS).

MGMS is specifically designed for vehicles with pneumatic tyres. The aluminum panels are 3.3m wide and the unit comes standard with the launch and recovery system FASTRACK which can be mounted on a flat bed truck or direct to a truck chassis.

HGMS can be laid onto any terrain and with a panel width of 4.6m can handle the heaviest of vehicles including tanks. The launch and recovery system for this model is the Trackway which is designed for a hook lift system or can be chassis mounted. The HGMS can be transported by truck, plane, train and boat. This model also comes with SPOOLRACK which has the ability to replenish the Trackway without the need for a crane.

A wide range of accessories is available for both models.

“FAUN Trackway is a proven, effective solution for vehicles to cross soft, muddy, marshy, snowy, beach or desert terrain,” Mackay Defence Sales Engineer, Rohan James said.

“Whilst FAUN Trackway is primarily designed for military applications, it also has scope for civilian use wherever vehicles need to have a low impact on the surrounding environment such as the installation of pipelines or on sensitive building sites,” Mr James went onto say.

FAUN Trackway s also applicable to military aviation use - specifically in the area of temporary runways. Rapid Runway Repair (RRR) mats enable critical sections of airfield to be repaired in order for flying operations to be resumed following an enemy attack. It is an effective solution for helicopter landing pads, hardstanding for aircraft, temporary taxiways and aircraft recovery when a plane has overshot a runway.

Aircraft Landing Mat (ALM) is a rapidly deployable expedient runway for longer term temporary installations. Helicopter Landing Mat (HLM) is a rapidly deployable helipad, providing a solid foundation for helicopter landing and forward operating service work.
